About
About the teacher:
Hey! My name is Lilly :)
I am a classically-trained violinist and a singer. Formerly, I was a member with the Western Australian Youth Orchestras (philharmonic). I began singing as a child with Mícheal McCarthy at the Cottage Music Institute in Perth, have over 10+ years of education in classical music, and am experienced in both solo and group performance.
In the last two years, I have specialised in the traditional Irish fiddle and singing styles, a beautiful kind of music I share a special connection with through my Irish heritage.
I enjoy performing for the community.
I also have 3+ years of experience working with younger children as an assistant after-school visual arts teacher in Perth.
My teaching philosophy draws predominantly from my knowledge of classical music.
All students will be taught (in regards to violin):
to read music, understand keys, rhythm, scales and chords etc
to attune their ear to scales, correct intervals and pitch, and to play in-tune
a wide range of stylistic elements and combinations ( including phrasing, bowing patterns, vibrato, slides, ornamentation etc) that will give students the freedom to interpret pieces creatively
proper violin playing techniques, including correct posture and positioning, bow control and finger placement etc
a feeling for emotional expression and most importantly, how to love music and have fun!
All students will be taught (in regards to singing)

a wide range of stylistic elements and combinations (vibrato, slides, ornamentation, different vocal qualities, dynamics control etc) that will give students the freedom to interpret pieces creatively
to sing in the Irish Gaelic language *if you would like to :)
How to love music and most importantly, express themselves creatively and have fun!
I love to teach, children especially, and I always try my best to create fun, playful, meaningful ways for them to learn. Often, I use little games, social playing and performance opportunities, folk stories and my knowledge of Irish culture to achieve this. I teach in a positive, social, non-competitive environment, and strive to encourage an attitude of music for the purpose of culture, and bringing joy and beauty to oneself, and most importantly, others.
I also love to encourage emotional expressiveness in student's playing and singing, and for them to feel the joy, light-heartedness, mysticalness and magic in every tune. My main hope is that they take these feelings with them everwhere they go!
Please feel free to contact me anytime about whatever enquiries you may have, I'd love to chat! :)
Wishing you a lovely day!
